My broody hen was given hatching eggs today in a new nest. To keep her from getting back into the common laying boxes, I have them blocked off for the day. She won't get into the new nest, but is sitting on the floor facing it. She's taken 4 eggs out of it for herself. She seems to be avoiding the EE and Marans eggs, as she's used to seeing light brown ones. Should I just put the rest of the eggs under her where she is, maybe tonight? This is her first clutch, and mine.

Make sure it’s definitely dry and I’d say it would be fine, If the poop is wet get new bedding as the poop could go through the shell and infect the chick later on during the incubation process

They become fixated on their nest so moving them to a new one often breaks them from being broody

Can you get her back on the old nest?
No. The other hens also prefer that box and had been piling on top of her. I don't mind letting her make a nest where she is, but I just didn't know about the egg and poop situation.

I cleared out the poopy bedding around her, gave her all of the eggs, and covered her with a cat litter box cover, to keep her roosting sisters from pooping on her. She never moved or pecked at me while I was doing all of that, just puffing up and dirty looks. I hope she does ok.

I have no problems moving my broody hens, my hens get bullied by the others when they’re together, keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll see tomorrow, moving her back and forth will definitely knock her out of it. You’ve moved her and the eggs already, just give her time

I have heard of people wiring off the broody from the flock.

I hope it works out for you!
