Broody hen not wanting new nest

She's about a week into her broodiness. She's been sitting in the same place for over 4 hours, just stealing eggs from the other nest. I figure she'll probably be ok where she is. She's facing the back wall of the coop with enough room for her to get out, but not in view of the common nestboxes. Fingers crossed!

:fl

I hope you have a good hatch with her!

Ok. Thank you all for the advice. I appreciate it. Should I encourage her to get out and eat when I feed everyone else in the morning? My girls only eat pellets in the a.m.

Yea, or you can just lift her up for a second while you do it, some people do it during night but mine usually don’t have a problem.

I'm just so excited for her and me both. The hatching eggs are barnyard mix, which might not excite some people, but to me it'll be kind of like a box of chocolates without a tasting guide. The guy I got them from has a huge array of different breeds. My mom incubated some from him, but only got a 50% hatch rate. More than half were Brahma cross chicks. I guess his Brahma roo is the big man on campus.

Barnyard mixes are the best!

6 of them are clearly from EE mamas, 4 were dark brown, so probably Welsummer or Marans mamas. That leaves 2 that I have no clue of either side of their parentage.

I decided not to disturb Ms. Broody Pants this morning at breakfast. She stayed on the eggs all night, all morning, and just now is taking a break. I brought her some pellets, and while she was eating, marked the eggs she's been sitting on. She had an extra one in there, but I just marked it too because I couldn't tell it from the other light brown eggs. I hope she finds her way back in there, it's chilly today. When she takes a break tomorrow, I might add some more bedding, or something because the eggs were touching the floor.
