My hen, Mildred, has been sitting for 21 days on eggs that aren’t going to hatch. At first we were excited because she could be our first mum to hatch her own but then she pecked and ate an unfertilised egg (I guess it’s better than it exploding). She won’t stop being broody until she hatches her own and we really want her to have babies. Is it safe enough for her to sit another 21 days? I know hens don’t eat/ drink often when broody so I go in three times a day to give her food water and vitamins, and she’s getting a dust bath to herself. We’re going to move her to a private area so she can sit on 6 new eggs without the stress of our other hens.
Is this healthy for her?

Following this as i have a silkie pullet that came out of being broody and unsuccessful (no fertile eggs). She started laying again for about 2 weeks and has went broody again. I've got fertile eggs that will be here today, for her. I do worry about her and like you, I encourage her to eat throughout the day.
