Hi all,

I have a hen who I suspect has gone broody. But there is no way these could be fertile eggs. We have no rooster and don't want any babies right now. So, giving her fertile eggs to sit on isn't an option.

She has been in her nest for 3 - 4 days now and I don't think she has gotten out. I am concerned that she isn't eating or drinking.

These are my first chickens so I haven't experienced this before. Do I let her stay and be broody?? or try to stop her??

What should I do and how should I do it??

thanks in advance for any help with this!

If I were you, I wouldn't let her continue to sit.
You can pick her up and set her in front of the feed/water.
Keep ruffling her until she snaps out of it. Take the eggs away. If she goes back to the nest, just keep moving her out of it until she gives up. Hope it works!

Some put their Broody up in a wire cage to get cool air under her to stop the broodiness...Mine I just don't set eggs under them and pull them off the nest 2 or 3 times a day to eat or drink.....sometimes I take them out into the yard for hours and pull the henhouse door closed so they can't get back to the nestbox...Works for me...I did have one a few years back that would not give up, sat for 23 days, finally gave her some eggs, she set for another 21 and had a clutch to keep her busy...lol
