Good day everyone
This is the first time I ever had a broody hen sitting on eggs
She started around May 3, so technically yesterday is hatching day and I haven't seen any movements there
She s been sitting there full time since and I have only really seen her got off the nest once.
I can't get too close to her to try candling :(

She didn't kick out any eggs and I'm pretty sure all eggs are fertile as I used to have 6 roosters vs 5 hens

I'm just getting anxious

Why can't you get close enough to candle? Is the broody with the flock?
I can't candle. She won't let me touch her 😭😭
She is sitting in the duck coop that ducks are not using.
I went in today to see if I can hear any chirping under her but can't hear anything
The eggs should be fertilized and she s been sitting on them full time with only one break that I saw

There is a good chance there are chicks under her. The mom will stay pretty tight the first couple days. Putting on some leather gloves will go along way in protection from beaks if you want to take a look.
I really tried to listen to chirping but I can't hear anything under her

How good could the first year mama be ?
She is very serious. I'm dying here want to meet her babies
Tho she can sit on them a little longer lol I have 6 duck eggs under her too 😂😂

Its best to leave her alone. If she has chicks hatching and your tryna be curious she coukd flip out and damage the eggs,,, let nature tak3 its coarse. She knows what shes doing

If you are certain she began incubating them on Wednesday May 3, then the viable chicks should have hatched this past Wednesday May 24, or at the latest Thursday May 24. If she truly has no chicks, then something went wrong with the eggs.

If you live in the U.S., it is now dark outside. Go out with a flashlight and shine it into her nest box. If she has chicks, some will almost always peak out from under her breast, because they are curious about the light. In the photo below, night has fallen, the broody hen can't see well, the light on her right side is from my flashlight, and her chicks have come to the front of the nest box because of the light.

If no chicks do so, adjust the flashlight so you barely have enough light to see your broody, and gently lift her breast up and take a peek underneath her. She sounds like a very protective broody, but chickens cant see in the dark, so make sure she can't see your hand. It's definitely time to know if she has chicks under her.

U do realize that it takes 7 days longer for ducks to hatch.. what is your plan when she gets off the nest with her babies, shes 10000% not gona sit another 7 days unless those chickens arent fertile
Yup I know duck eggs took longer , hatched 2 dozen a month ago.
I was planning on put them in the incubator after the chicks hatch

But unfortunately, my chicken eggs are not good they were fertile but all quit. I just candled them yesterday all rotten but 4/5 duck eggs are good lol so she is still sitting on them
Should be hatching the next couple of days

Thanks for the tip
I cleaned out the coop around her ( it was an overwinter but rarely used duck coop )and my other hens went in there to peck at the bugs on the floor and drove her out. I candled them. Unfortunately none of the chicken eggs were good. They are all rotten so I guess they all quit at some point. Not sure what the problem is tho. I have 1 rooster with 5 hens
But luckily most of the duck eggs are good and should be ready to hatch soon :)
