My broody hen makes the tuk tuk tuk sound when she sees pine shavings, so the chicks think pine shavings are treats. Currently, I have them in a dog kennel inside the coop with straw lining, but the coop itself is lined with pine shavings. Eventually, they would have to go live in the coop without the dog kennel, but the nesting straw pads are so expensive. Not sure what to do...

Make sure the chicks have grit, and use larger flake shavings if possible (I usually get aspen shavings for chicks as they're coarser than any pine shavings I can find).
