Our Black Austrolorpe went broody a few days ago, so I read up on it all and convinced my hubby to let me get some fertilized eggs. We set up a little cage for her in the run so she doesn't hog the one egg box (we have three hens), though she goes right back to the box during the day. Our EE squawks and squawks to get in the box, or just cuz, I don't know. Anyway, we are going out of town mid-July so I'm thinking to give Sylvie some eggs at the beginning of July so we're here when they hatch. And if she isn't broody then, which it sounds like is unlikely, then we won't. My question is what I should do for the next three weeks. Give her golf balls? Keep moving her at night? Not worry about it at all and let them figure it out? They do sit in the egg box two at a time sometimes and lay, so that's not too big a deal. Sylvie is being nice; she lets us check under her and move her. Any suggestions so we and the other hens don't all go crazy?
