The same thing happened to me today. I checked the coop and noticed one of my girls was missing, she was under one of our wicker lawn chairs she made a nice size nest with 3 eggs. I was going to collect them but decided against it when I told my fiancé. We live in Virginia Beach and are already getting freezing temperatures the water in the kiddie pool for the ducks and chickens had about an inch thick layer of ice. I wouldn't mind having chicks running around but am nervous that they won't make it because of the temperatures. Should I incubate them?I thought our girl went missing but saw a glimpse of her going under the shed and sure enough she has made a gigantic pile of leaves as her nest. SHe hasn't laid in over a month and I can't get under there to get her out or see if she has eggs. This is not the coop, it's on the other side of property. Should I just leave her be and put some food under there for her? It was way below freezing temps last night...
