Frizzledhen makes a good point, however I think your set up also makes a significant difference. My hen with chicks is low in the hierarchy, but my chickens free range so there is plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing in their own space and plenty to get far away if desired. I have been careful to set out more feeders/waterers and treat bins than usual so that everyone can get what they need without crowding. There is certainly a pecking order in my flock, but I think it would be much more of a concern if their run space was limited. As for the coop, once everyone heads in at night they are pretty quick to roost & my hen & her chicks occupy a secluded corner overnight. At sunup the coop door opens and they all move out into the yard, so again space is not an issue.
