Last night we moved our broody hen I thought she had left the eggs. They felt cool to me But I just went out ot the coop and shes sitting on them. She tossed out 6 out of the nest and is siting on the other ten. Do they do this Will the eggs still be viable? I don't have any idea how long she was off the nest Will she sit on the eggs if they are no longer viable? thanks for all your help. This is the first time our year old chicks have gone broody.

Yes they will do that and the eggs will probably be ok. She has taken out some of the eggs for a reason, so leave her with the clutch she wants. They may not be developing and she knows somehow or there are just to many for that particular hen to cover. 8-10 is a good number. My girls are bantam and I never let them set on more than 8 and they usually end up pushing out one or two of those.
