I know this may sound like a funny question but I have a rooster who only hangs out and mates with one hen, and that hen is currently broody, for now, he is with her because he is not bothering her in any way he is just laying close to her. Should I take him out or let him be with the hen? And if I let him stay are there possibilities that he will be gentle with the chicks when born? I am just afraid he might kill them because this is the first time that he is a dad, if let him out he will just sleep and not pay any attention to any other hen. What should I do? Please help @Chickens

Our little cockerel has become a dad for the first time. He kept his distance from the chicks as their mother was pretty protective of them and he wasn't going to mess with her. He seemed like he didn't really know what to do but he hasn't harmed them at all and tolerates their presence. They are around 3-4 weeks old now and he tidbits to them to let them know when dinner is served, but during the day they stick close to their mother and he's busy looking after the rest of the hens.

I think your boy will be just fine and your hen will ensure that he doesn't try anything funny.
