Broody Hen

Somebodys acct musta got hacked! I'm not sure who posted that pic, but it ain't a compost pile, it's a pile of chicken sh!t! We finally know how to break broodys. Just put them on the shit pile till all thoughts of having babies and doing what comes natural to birds leaves their poor little heads! WFT!
Actually it’s turkey and duck poo. I added it to the compost/dirt pile this morning for the girls to blend it for me so I can use in my vege garden in a few months. Smells bad but they love it and I always have lovely fresh veges thanks to them

Good morning well it's morning here anyway LOL. So we had a couple Broody hens as well. What works for us is we just made sure that there was no eggs for her to lay on...and any time any of my other hens laid any eggs or she did we just took them out of the box right away and took her out of the box as well... unfortunately one of our hens started laying underneath our shed and we couldn't get to her and she became extremely broody and we couldn't get her out... eventually she stopped being Broody and came out on her own but it was awhile.. it was a good couple of weeks.. I hope this helps but truly just taking away the eggs and also even closing off that particular area wherever she is broody at might help too.. when we closed off the one box that our silky was being Broody and she got pretty mad but she got over it in a couple of hours..

Is "pre-broody" a thing? My girl is trying to sleep in the nest box, sitting on any eggs she can get under her, all puffed up and clucky yet she is still laying eggs every other day or so which is her pattern. I have been pulling her out of the next box and putting her on the roost at night, during they day when I pull her out she sits on the floor of coop all puffed up but if I have opened up the coop she will go outside.

Yes, I believe in pre-broody is possible.

@CJP I think you need to get a wire crate...and probably cool water dunk her as it's hot there, harder to 'cool them down'....maybe even a fan running under the crate, have read of folks doing that when breaking in hot weather.
This is what I use, notice the smaller wire added on bottom....dem crates are mighty handy.
Water and feed added after pic was taken.

Little buggers aren’t they. My Wyandotte has decided she wants to be a mum now.

Well after the 3rd day no eggs from her I finished off (well not finished but functional) the chicken jail/broody buster in the coop. She is in there now and stressed out:(
The thing is my usually stand offish blue amerauncana is super sweet in her hormonal state! I fell terrible that she is stressed out but will hold firm. The plan is this afternoon at the 24 hour mark to let her out and let the flock out in the chicken yard and see what happens. If she goes back in the nest box and fluffs up then it's back to jail.
