Hi all. I’m a chicken keeper and I’d love to have a broody hatch some chicks. I have bought a black copper maran hen with 6 chicks recently and a wild Irish ☘️ gamefowl with 7 chicks. My hens are. A buff pekin. 1 buff silkie and 1 partridge silkie. 1 Japanese. 1 Japanese x Dutch booted banty. A black copper maran ,an Irish gamefowl and a buff Sussex and 2 Rhode Island reds. All are hens and are all 1 or 2 years old. Thanks in advane

I’m told that too but I got them in may and repeatedly put a clutch of eggs in their nest boxes but they never copped on to the trick
Are the silkie's laying? I've heard the same thing, but have never had silkies. I've had several hens go broody over the last 3 years. A buff orpington, a french black copper marans, and most recently 2 Olive eggers. Both of those olive eggers are broody for the second time since May, and I am restricted in the number of chickens I can have. I have more of a problem breaking them from broodiness! :he

Unfortunately, it is a behavior that you have to wait for. It can be encouraged by leaving eggs in the nest box, but when she is broody, by hen doesn't care if I've collected the eggs! :lau

The breeds that have gone broody the most are my Swedish and Chiquitas which are a cross between the Swedish and a silkie. You can't make them go broody just have to wait for them to go on their own. Right now I have a broody and am looking for hatching eggs close to hatching as it is too hot for her to sit for three weeks.. They are great moms too
