my silkie has been sat for 24 days sadly no eggs hatched but they were all fertile - she decided to leave the nest on day 24 - I removed the eggs - did an eggtopsy and all chicks had died at some point - I cleaned up the nest area - she seems ok and in quite good condition as I made sure she had food and water right next to her with electrolyte in the water- she pecked around a while with the others but has now gone back to the nest - I really want her to have some chicks - is it wrong of me to put some more fresh fertile eggs under her ?

As long as she looks healthy and she’s eating and drinking enough, I don’t see a problem with letting her sit on a couple. Not sure how many she was sitting on previously, but perhaps a smaller clutch would be easier for her to handle.

Thank you - she has 6 eggs this time - hopefully she'll get some chicks out of them even two just so she can have something at the end of it all

I have the same problem with my hen, but I get the feeling that she doesn't get up much from the nest to eat or drink despite it being very near her. Would it be a good idea to get rid of the old eggs and put new ones under her, or would it be safer (for her) to try and get her out of broodiness? This is her first time being broody and it's definitely past hatch day but she's is determined to sit on the nest.

(Also sorry if this is the wrong place, I'm new and still getting used to all this)
