I doubt that your rooster would kill the chicks, he is more likely to go into protective dad mode and be more aggressive towards you. On the other hand, your others hens may well kill the chicks if given the opportunity. If you are going to sneak day old chicks under her then you should separate her from the rest of the flock before hand.

The hens have all sorts of mechanisms to prevent cuckoldry. They hide nest (also to prevent depredation). They try to keep other hens away from nest site and closer to wild hens will fight hard to keep sole use of a nest. They will attack and even kill chicks they are not properly bonded / imprinted on. Those are all mechanisms the hens have to make so they raise only their own offspring. The system is not perfect as other hens can slip in and deposit eggs in nest before incubation begins.

We are taking advantage of a system where hens will incubate far longer than natural and be able to accept offspring that are not hers when they are presented in the time window where the hen is open to imprinting (assuming chicks are also in the complimentary window).

Cuckoldery in the biological context is through deception have another raise your offspring. For some reason, poultry people make assumption it is a male only tactic. Females can do it too. And it can go across species boundaries. Some Cuckoo Birds are obligates and many waterfall do it facultatively.

I know how to make it work regularly, but does have a seasonal component. Mine will not do it until start of molt involving wing feathers in roughly May. There is a hormone component setting stage for it and maintaining it even in roosters.
