All my hen does is sit on the nesting box, there’s no egg underneath her, and she’s not too aggressive when I pick her up.

We can move her fine, and she’s walking grea. But all she does when we lock her out of the box, is cluck.

On and on and on, that’s all she does.

Is she being broody??? Is there a way to get her to cut it out?? Or should I just wait it out??

Or is there something wrong with her??

This is my first flock so I’m just curious, I’ve never see this before!

Hi! No, that does not sound broody.

When they sit on the nesting box they are laying an egg, which often takes a while to do.

They will cluck when being locked out because they want in to lay the egg.

After a bit of sitting, does she lay her egg, and get off shortly after? This is not broody behavior.

A broody hen. (Not speaking for all, but this is what mine do, and most do.) They will puff up like a turkey, hiss, make some noise, and be all floppy when lifted upwards. Some will bite or be more aggressive when you touch them, some will not.
A broody hen is a hen that is determined to hatch eggs, so she will usually be very determined and sit on her eggs until they hatch! (Around 21 days) It is important that if you don’t have fertile eggs under her and your not planning to hatch eggs, you break her from being broody immediately. Its not bad she is broody, but its just a waste to have her on the nest when your not trying to hatch, because she will stay on the nest, barely eating and getting the energy she needs, and if you leave her on there forever, she will eventually die.

Obviously, if a hen is on a nest for a day, and showing broody behavior, she is broody. Don’t get scared that she would die or something for being broody, she would have to be on the nest for longer then 21 days, like 30 or something.

She’s been doing this for about a day, and she has not laid an egg,

Has she laid before or is this her first time?

has she been on the nest for a day, or just doing this behavior, leaving, and continuing to do it?

She is not standing weird, and is eating and drinking fine right?
She might be broody then, every broody is different on how they act.

If this is her first time laying, and she has not laid before ever, my bantam cochin did the same thing, screamed her lungs off trying to find a spot to lay for a day, then a day after she did the same thing, to just find her perfect spot.

She’s laid before, but this is the first time she’s demonstrated this behavior
