hey guys i have a question! so for the past few weeks one hen out of my flock has been laying in the nest they all lay their eggs in, she will sit on the nest all day and the others get mad! when i close the coop up she paces back and forth all puffed up and mad in front of the coop wanting in. is there a way i could get her to stop doing that?

Do you have a large wire dog crate with an open mesh floor? We call this a broody cage. The objective is to install the broody hen in it with food and water but no nesting material, allowing for cooling air to flow under her. This will cool her body temp and interrupt the broody hormones. She must spend night in the cage as well as days.

It takes about two nights and three days for the hormones to reverse. You may let her out two or three times a day to dirt bathe, but she must not be allowed to go back to the nest. When you let her out and she shows no further interest in sitting in the nest, she is then considered "broken".

How do you “make” a broody hen? I do want to have chicks, but I just don’t seem to have any luck. The majority of my hens a naturally hatched (not from hatcheries) which I have been told is essential to have a hen become broody … but we have yet to have a broody hen.
Any advice?
I know how to 'break' them,
but I do not believe you can 'make' them.
They either have the broody hormones, or they don't.
