Broody Hen?!

My 7 month old Cuckoo Marans (who usually lays an egg every day bright and early at 6 am) has not been laying for about a week now, but still goes into the nesting box 2 or 3 times a day for about an hour at a time. Today I decided to put a fertile egg under her (from one of my other hens) and she just sat down on top of it after turning it for a while. Is she broody? My grandmother thinks she is too young to be broody--is 7 months too young? (she has been laying since she was 3 months old...)

I'm a newbie but I'm pretty sure they can go broody whenever they start laying eggs

I had one go broody (and raise chicks) after she'd been laying a short time, maybe a month or so. Probably unusual, but they will do what they do. If she stays on the nest 24 / 7 I would say she is broody. Usually they will also growl when you approach and fluff up if you reach for them.
