I spent the month of july worrying about how to stop two of my hens being broody. But now I have been given some while cochin eggs and really need a broody hen!! I do not want to buy an incubator. What are the chances of a hen becoming broody at this time of year? The eggs have been sitting for about 6 days now.

My hen(s) just started laying. Some eggs are fertile, some not. (I butchered the roosters 2 days before the eggs started)But the hen doesn't sit on them. She just lays them on my worktable and takes off. I have tried putting a nesting box in the spot she likes but she just pushes it onto the floor and uses the table.

I haven't caught her at it yet, so don't know which of my 13 hens is actually doing the laying. How can I get her to go broody? I do have a very nice set of nesting boxes. This is frustrating.
