Broody Hens

I have a hen that has decided to go broody, how long should wait to see if she is really serious? If she hasnt moved today I am going to put her in a smaller run by herself. If she sits after the move should I take her serious? I hope so i got some eggs to hatch and I would love for her to hatch them.

If she stayed put all day and all night after I moved her, I'd assume she meant it -- especially if you get the growl if you reach in there.

If she stays there today, I would assume she's serious, and I would also consider a broody breaker. Some of my Plymouth Rocks have gone broody and let me take the eggs out from under them without growling or pecking surprising considering everyone else's stories of them being mean.

Ok thats what I was thinking to. Suprisingly she hasnt been mean when I reached under her to see if my other hen had laid ( which she had) she just let me take it. So as of right now shes sitting on a golf ball lol.

I wish I could let mine sit on eggs to hatch them..... But I live within city limits, so there's no rooster for me

So update on the "broody" she wasnt serious gave up after 4 days. To bad I would love to let her hatch some babies for me.

Thanks! I got a chick yesterday, and she is a gold laced wyandotte! Took some pictures for BYCers and for myself! Ostrich accepted her when I snuck her in and switched the chick for an egg! Here's the album for you to see the cuty-pie! Named her Gold Nugget!

oh by the way broody is back broody... just took a day off. Gave her four eggs and she hasnt moved since. We shall see if they hatch or not. Crossing my fingers!!
