Broody in Feb!!!??

The light is off in my coop too. What eggs do I want???? Is that a loaded question?

I would like some true araucanas. I want blue eggs. Also some marans, SLW, some lavender birds. I don't really care , probably some of each.

So many to choose from. What an addiction I have...

Thats what my mom said. I have been talking about the broody all day. And she is all like you are so addicted! LOL and i am all like yeah i know. lol i will upload pics in like a half hour of the broody and my flock!

We have 3 broody banties right now. Unfortunately, we don't have room for more chickens. Otherwise, we'd have eggs under all of them. The little boogers are taking up half of our nesting boxes. The other hens don't appreciate it. Found 7 eggs frozen under the riding mower the other day.

We've even seen the big girls (standards) laying on top of the broodies to lay their eggs. Of course the little girls don't mind, they just tuck them underneath. We have to check for eggs a lot.

I wonder if you took the broody out of the nest and put her in the snow if it would help? I know it sounds mean but it still might help. Dont leave her in the snow, but just grab her gentle and put her out there.

This is Michelle. Just posted under DH's account (Farmer Brown). No, taking them out didn't help. They'll walk around for a second then get right on back in there. We even tried to buddy them up. You know, 2 in a box. They are small anyway. No go on that one either. They've probably been there for a little over 2 weeks already.

I SO wish we did have room for even just a few. I just don't think our poor grass will ever rebound if we get more. I was looking at some old pics of our backyard the other day. I didn't realize how much they'd torn up. We have 16 total, 10 big girls and 6 banties. One of the banties is a roo. We do occasionally find fertile big girl eggs. Hilarious sight to see little Cosmo do his thing with the big girls!
