Broody in sub-freezing temps?

Buying female chicks means you want other people to cull day old chicks for you. Having male chicks means you have to do so yourself, have an opportunity to raise meat or give away the surplus cockerels to someone who gladly wants them.
True, something I do myself. But many people suffer terribly with either the means or ability to butcher. It is just another option in this hobby.

Just one more thing to add. Some broodies don’t accept chicks that are not hers, a few days old. Look for more info if you want to walk this path.
(just from reading, no experience)
Even with silkies, I've had this happen, so I brushed it off as they faking being broody. :gig I have a couple of good actors!
