We were at our wit's end with 4 broodies and no rooster nor room for babies. I had a broody jail I made from a really big dog crate but it was a nightmare to clean since I had to access it from the small end and three hens was already overbooked! So he built me this behemoth creation. Posting so that any of you in a similar bind who has someone handy or is handy can build something similar.
He built a big wooden frame and it has an elevated floor that you can set two grated panels in the bottom of. Then he built a groove for a 2x2 perch that you can drop in. It has a slat across the top with eye hooks to hang the feeder and water feeder from. He left the plywood just sitting on top in two pieces so it is easy for me to move (I have to be super careful not to drop the plywood inside but ever mindful....) so when I have to clean it daily. I just let them out for 15 minutes, take the feeders out. lift the perch off and lift the grates out and hose them down. Then scoop up any droppings from below via the door and back in they go! I told him we should pop wheels on it!
