When I feed mine the extra protein I like to mix it up into some wet feed. That way they are also eating the feed to get the nutrition that they need.

In the summer I do the wet feed with some fruit or veggies mixed into it, or you can also freeze them into the ice cubes or containers.

I did the freezing during the summer and was so amazed how much they loved it!

I'm excited to start them on some tuna!

This is a good point! You reminded me: we also give them warm cooked oatmeal on cold mornings (we make it for ourselves and make extra for the chickens).

They loooove oatmeal. They put their whole faces in it to eat it, then they spend the rest of the morning trying to wipe the oatmeal off their face and beaks.

Yes, they do like the oatmeal in the winter. My new flock hasn't started laying egg's yet, but if they were I would be scrambling up a couple of the egg's to add to that oatmeal for them. The oatmeal to help keep them warm, and the egg's as added protein for them. You could stir in a little of the crumbles feed into that mixture too.

Make it just like you make it for yourself. Just make extra so you will have some left over for the chicken's.

We make it with 1/2 milk and 1/2 water, same as we make it for ourselves. Sometimes we add blueberries or strawberries, the chickens love those, too!

I just feed them some strange food left over from my leftover spaghetti from last night's dinner. They looked at it at first trying to figure out if it was something to eat, and then decided to try it.

Hey all! I have a non-chicken question for you. I tried on a cat forum but they weren't much help. I figured some of you, like me, have other pets too. So maybe one of you might have some insight.


We have a lone 10 year old female calico cat. We've had her for 5 years (rescue). She's always been impeccable with her litter habits until several weeks ago. She pooped on the couch which is beside her litter box. Then about a week or more later, she did it again (different area on couch).

I put clear clear plastic vinyl on the couch thinking she wouldn't even want to stand on that. It didn't stop her. She's been going poo on there more often... a couple times per week, to now almost every day. Once she peed on there too.

No changes in litter, food, household, house, routines. It seems out of the blue.

On the chance she was having tummy issues, I started giving her a pro-biotic (Forti-Flora) for the past 10 days to no effect.

I'm at a loss understanding why. Any ideas??

Have you changed brands of cat litter lately, and she doesn't like it? If not, I would ask the vet that you take her to about it.

No changes at all. I'm really trying to avoid a vet trip. Our finances have been super slim this past year with our business.
