Broody making me Moody!

New at this chicken thing so I have a black sex link and no rooster and she sits and sits and when I try to move her she puffs up and growls at me. I am concerned that she isn't eating if I just leave her to hatch her "invisible" chicks. When I do move her the other ladies want to peck her when she is causing a fuss. Whats a nonchicken to do?

You could always get her some fertile eggs.

If possible lock her somewhere that she can not gain access to her nest site. It will take time, but she will 'break'. The other hens peck at her because her change in demeanor makes her appear as a stranger to them.

Just feed her separately and eventually the broodiness will go away. Broodiness is cause by a hormone. It cant be prevented but there are ways to shorten the duration. Read some threads on here for best way to do it. Personally, It does not bother me when a hen is broody. Eventually she gets over it. I just keep removing eggs from under her that other chickens laid. When a hen is broody she quits laying eggs. Many here don't like the loss of egg laying action.

(I just love seeing mommas with their babies running around the yard.) I always shut mine in a dog crate with no bedding material. Some take longer to break than others, but it works nearly every time.

Thank you for your quick reply. I think I will just leave her alone. I'm all about hormones making me crazy so I will leave the poor dear to "brood".
