If you have a broody hen, and you give her live chicks, she will either immediately peck at them and start making loud noises and acting crazy….or she will peep and be excited and start pushing them underneath her. She knows they need to be kept very warm. Watch and pay attention….she will fluff up her feathers and spread out her body…she is tucking them in and making sure she doesn’t sit on them. Baby chicks need to be kept VERY warm for a while so she will “sit“ on them. You will notice IMMEDIATELY if she doesn’t want the chicks or is scared or confused. She will show you that she doesn’t want them…she wont shove them underneath her. Enjoy your little family!!!Thank you so much I am starting to feel so much better. I was wondering if I still needed to worry about her being broody if she was going to kill them would she have already done that by now?
