Bad luck!

The duck has broken 4 out of 5 chicken eggs with her "talons". The worst thing is that I could still see the yolk with the blood vessels spread on the hay around the nest.

Should I have filed her claws a bit?

Still one chicken egg, fertile from what I've seen, I candle tested all 3 remaining eggs and 2 infertile duck eggs of hers.

Fingers crossed that she won't break this last fertile egg!

I'm sorry, even just their weight could probably crush a chickens eggs. then those feet, I hope you at least get the one

I've got to know.....how did it turn out??? I was thinking of doing the same thing since we can't have a rooster.

Baby chick died in middle of it's incubation, I don't know why. Go for it but make sure the duck has gone really broody, let her sit in the nest for a couple of days before you give her eggs to incubate. Maybe that was my mistake since I gave her the eggs the first day she stayed in the nest. Also as you have read in my previous posts in this thread she broke all the rest of the chicken eggs because of her talons and her weight, also because the chicken's eggs have a softer shell. She was not that typical in the begining but she became perfect mum for the eggs after a few days. It was also her first time.

Chicken eggs are just not sturdy enough to stand up to Muscovy feet..
