I have a Silkie who layed her first eggs about a month ago, she has been broody about 2-3 weeks now and sitting on NO eggs. I remove her from the nest 2-3 times daily but she keeps going back. I live in Wisconsin and would rather not have chicks now. I want her to hatch chicks in May. Can I break her now and her be back broody come April? I'm planning on letting her sit on a least 8 eggs if not more. so far she is the only hen to go broody. All my chickens are 32 1/2 weeks old.
Thanks Amy

Unfortunately you can't really "make" a hen broody. They best you can do is leave a clutch of eggs in her nest and hope she sits.

Best of luck,
Lynn

OK? she sat and sat and sat on nothing for like 2 weeks+ so my husband built a brooderbreaker (box) and just when he finished it the silly silkie decided not to be broody anymore! ???? so now I can't wait for her to start laying again and in April hopefully she gets broody again. BTW our other silkie has not layed yet? I don't think so anyway, however I did find 2 silkie eggs not in a nest while the one silkie was broody????? I don't know, it's all foreign to me.
