Hi!
One of my quail hens went broody and hatched some eggs. They hatched this morning, and 3 are up and running around, 2 are still drying off. I put a jar lid with a shallow bit of water and dipped their beaks. Just because I found one tucked away that didn't make it and I was worried that was the reason.
I think the mom might be nervous? I'm just not sure if she's acting correctly, and I want to be able to support her. She's not sitting with the brand new ones. Is she supposed to be?
I'm tempted to put them in a box away from the others but I don't want to interfere too much because she built the nest and was so diligent about everything so far. I saw a couple going under her wings, and she almost settled in to let them, but then ran away.
Do quails usually learn mothering from their mothers? That's me. She's an incubator baby. Should I do anything, or just kind of let her figure it out?
TIA for any suggestions or reassurances.
