How do broodies know when to stop turning their eggs? Do they just keep turning them until they hatch and somehow almost always get a near perfect hatch or do the chicks peep and tell her to stop turning them?

When the chicks start to pip the hen pulls down tight for the hatch.

I have had hens that have set for several weeks past the normal 3, they wouldn't break so I gave up and gave them eggs.

This year "Momma Hen" set a total of 6 days. She got eggs out of the incubator and I didn't have to set up a brooder.
