So i have a dumb question.. these are our first chickens we have 5 hens 1 rooster theyall live together at all times i noticed about a week ago that our rooster was mating with a few of the hens.. so the question is we just started getting eggs yesterday will the hens be broody or no.. how does this work exactly?
if someone could send me some info or give me a link to read up on it thatd be awesome.

You will know a broody hen when you see one!

She will sit on the nest - with or without eggs in it - and refuse to move off. If you put you hand near her she will fluff up all her feathers, make nasty noises at you and probably try to peck you hand hard - she will turn into a nasty ball of feathers and shark beak monster!

She will sit there until her eggs hatch into chicks or you try to 'break' her out of it. She will only leave the nest a couple times each day to eat, drink and poop.

Usually breeds for egg production don't go broody very often.
