I have a hen that went broody about 4 weeks ago. We put some quail eggs under her but they didn't hatch. How long can she sit and it be safe for her? I make sure she gets up everyday for food and water but I need to know how long to let this go on and how do I break her of it?

Hello :)
Our white leghorn was broody about 6 months ago and it seemed that almost everything we were doing was not working. We tried false eggs ( and also the quail egg trick ), taking her out of the nest and a heap of other things. I came up with the idea of well if she wants to sit, let her sit! Being a budgie breeder I wasn't short of an old cage. I took out all of the internal structure of the cage so it was just the frame. It was big enough for her to fit comfortably with feed and water. I lined it with straw and put her in it away from the rest of my flock. The next morning I came outside and daisy was standing up eating and drinking. She looked annoyed at me so I let her out with the rest of the flock. She was not broody anymore :) I think she was just happy not to sit anymore :) she has not been broody since either. I think by far this was the most effective think I had tried. I hope this helps :)
