broody qustion

There are different reasons, but mainly because they do not want her to hatch chicks. Some people do not want or cannot have more chicks for many different legitimate reasons.

If a hen is broody, she is not eating or drinking as much as normal, she is loosing weight and is more susceptible to diseases. She is more susceptible to lice and mites, especially roost mites. I consider it cruel to not break a broody if you are not going to give her eggs to hatch.

If the eggs are not fertile she might stay on them for a long time, and that would be bad for her health.
