Broody Rooster????????????????

I went out to gather eggs this weekend and found our 6 month old rooster in a nest box with a hen! She kept getting in and out like she wanted him to leave. He just stayed over to one side with his head hanging out and making a purring sound. I moved away several feet since he is leary of me and he stayed in the nest box. Was he protecting or does he think he's a hen?

I have roosters that do that too. I think they're just trying to show the hens that they found a good place to lay an egg.

all my roo's make a nest, stand guard, and scream for the egg,, then once in a while will sit on em for a while,,,, he's just doing his "part" lol
