Ruby has now been broody for 5 weeks. Despite all attempts to break her cages etc she refuses to be broken. I have just 2 peeps and they have a free run of the garden. I now take her out of the coop every day and close it up. She runs round eating and drinking and brooding in the grass and as soon as I open up the coop she is faster than a shadow to get in and brood again. If I leave her will this broodiness go away by itself? I must admit 5 weeks is a long time and she sits on the other chickens egg each day until I remove it but she is not laying any herself. Will she be ok if I leave her to sort it herself?

Does she stay on nest even with the egg gone?
What breed is she?
How exactly did you use the 'cage'?
Pics of cage might help.

Some folks let them 'sit it out'...can work fine or cause bird to lose health and condition.
Any chance your space can handle a couple more birds...and you have access to fertile eggs or day old chicks?

Yes she sits on the nest wether there is an egg or not. I dont know the name of her breed but she is only small (the white one in my profile pic). The cage was a dog cage. I put it on bricks at each corner and she sat in it quite content . There was no bedding or straw just Ruby food and water.
