There must be some advice out there somewhere, but I couldn't find it!

So I have decided to put some eggs under my broody silkie cross.

I have a nice little house for her with a roof that can be lifted for cleaning or peeking.
Attached to the front is a covered run for momma and the babes.
The nursery will be set up on a flat bit of grass where she can still see the other chickens off in the distance.
I have sprayed DE in all the nooks and crannies, and have some frsh straw ready for nesting material.

So at the first sign of broodiness, Hermione will be moved into the nursery wing, and I will expect her to sit on those eggs almost constantly for 3 weeks. With as little disturbance as possible.

Ummmm.....HOW DO YOU CLEAN???!!!!

Surely you don't just let the chicks struggle around in 3 weeks worth of poo?

I'd really LOVE to hear what anyone else has to say, and to see pics of your nursery wings too

I have had my fair share of broody hens for sure!!! What works best for me is to take them off the nest twice a day so they can eat/drink/poo outside of their brooding area. Some hens raise their chicks with the flock but are seperated for the first week in a dog crate or big rubbermaid tub. I scoop the broody poo out everyday so the chicks aren't running around in it, dump the whole thing and add fresh bedding once a week.
