After a prolonged vacation, I returned yesterday to find my best show hen had gone broody. Rats.
Unfortunately, the upcoming show for which I was preparing her is in almost 2 weeks. Fortunately, she hasn't plucked her breast too much, and she's a cochin, show it's actually hard to see the bald spot until you examine her closely. Also, she doesn't seem to have lost any weight.
I'm really unsure as to what I should do now. She is, far and beyond, the best cochin I have, and I'd hate to show a bird of lesser quality at the show. However, I'm not sure, even after I've broken her, how well a hen with a bald breast will show.
And so I have a question for all of you experts out there, who actually know what you're doing.
What would you do, if given the choice between showing a broody hen of good quality and showing a non-broody hen of lesser quality than the first?
