Hello experienced chicken parents!
I have 3 Silkie hens that I've had for about a yr and a 6 month old Silkie Roo...that I've had for about a month. All has been going well since his intro, except all 3 girls have been broody. The other day when I went out to the coop to "kick the girls out" so they'd get some food and water I noticed Agnus looking like she had wry neck again! (This happened last year when I first got them and she recovered nicely. )
Anyway as soon as I noticed her issue I got her Vit E and syringe fed her that along with water mixed with electrolytes and probiotic. Within an hour or so she was holding her head better and foraging. I didn't seperate her being she was doing better. The next mornjng she was a bit crooked again but not as bad. I again gave her Vit E and electrolytes etc. Its been 3 days now and I continue this routine...am I doing the right thing?? Is there something else I should be looking at/ treating for? I would appreciate any advice! Thank you!
Note: they get a complete layer feed and scratch, along with lettuce, apples and tom everyday. I'll give them mealworms as a treat and they free range..although very little being they're broody. I put apple cider vinager and probiotic in their water. Their poops are normal. Also I did have a roo that I put down 2-3 months ago due to apparent Merek's. I believe the girls were living with another roo that had Merek's and died before I got them. They've never showed any signs of the disease but of course I get alittle panicky anytime I see them do something wierd! Attaching a pic of Agnus
