Okay.. new to this. I got my chicks in the spring, and they are now starting to lay. I have 9 (6 RIR, 1 australop, 1 buff orp and my grey silkie). A couple are laying on a regular basis now, including the Silkie.
I know Silkies are notorious for going broody from what I've read. So how do I stop her. She was laying an egg a day for the last week, and now she hasn't laid one in a few days. All she wants to do is sit in the nest box ALL DAY! Right now she's out there sitting on nothing but the fake egg I put in there to get them started.
Should I take out the fake egg in each nest box? Will the other girls who haven't started laying "get the hang of it" and lay in the nest box even with no fake egg??
