Broody Silkie? update!!!

I had the same problem with my silkie kicking out her eggs. I originally had her sitting in a very large back end of a rabbit hutch with some sawdust. After her first hatch resulted poorly (2 chicks out of 8 eggs) I made sure she used a different nest. I used a 1ft by 1ft nest that was 1ft tall (I’m sure you could go slightly smaller/larger) and made a bowl for the eggs out straw, so the eggs couldn’t get kicked out. This kept all the eggs under her, as she should be able to fit around 6-8 large fowl eggs. (much better hatch 5 chicks, out of 6 eggs)

Also, try to keep eggs not over 2-3 days apart, as the chicks will not hatch in a close enough time period, and she will get of the nest, destroying some of the hatch.

Update: she is still on the eggs. She gets up every morning eats and drinks and right back to the eggs. One of the other hens started laying eggs but I just pull them out when she eats and drinks. Wednesday should be day 21 so I hope to get at least 2 of the 4 eggs to hatch. Here she is on the right and her other supplier on the left.

Well yesterday was the 21st day. I haven't seen her off the eggs for a couple of days now but still no chicks. figured i would give it till this weekend before removing the eggs. would that be long enough or should I wait alittle longer?
