My eggs from peaceofthyme and the box they came in were in beautiful condition. I had the local post office call me to come pick them up instead of rattling around in the truck all day. They did call and I brought them doughnuts. they were very nice when I got my little chicks last year too! If steffpeck got that good of a viability rate i should get some little barnevelders too! Please post your baby pics too steffpeck!

One of my Silkie hens would not get off the nest either... I don't think I ever saw her off the nest. She did make a mess in the nest and we cleaned it out as we found it. It was colder and I wondered if that was why. She hatched every egg! My other Silkie that got on and off hatched 3 out of 7 eggs, so when it's cold, I'm thinking the fact that she is staying on is a good thing! We offered food and water for her each day. We just held it in front of her. Corn will help her produce body heat, so if she is only eating a little, try feeding her the cracked corn.

Try not to worry... I was concerned too... but she did great and we got a wonderful hatch. I hope you will too!

I just heard of someones hen recently dying because she refused to leave the nest

I would make her get off at least once every few days. I did with mine and the eggs all hatched out fine. Not with mommy as she was eating them but I put them in the bator after piping

well,
She pooped all over everything, in the nest. I found that early this morning just as I had to leave for work at my new job I started yesterday so I couldn't be late because of chicken poop! I don't think I should clean the eggs though... Yuck major stinky mess... I will take her out and the dirty hay and whatever pooh I can get out, tonight. I hope I don't break any eggs...
At least I know she is an extremely dedicated broody, I just should have gotten her off the nest even if she didn't come down of her own accord.
OR is the poop not really a big deal?
