I have a silkie that went broody earlier this year, which was fine. We got two chicks from the feed store, one died after the second night but the other is now mostly grown and doing well.

Problem is the silkie is broody again but her baby still hasn’t integrated into the main flock still and only follows her mom. The baby is sitting right next to the mom in an empty nesting box. I keep taking her eggs but she just won’t give up.

I feel like I’m probably just going to give in and get the silkie a couple more babies but will the older baby attack them? How many times can a silkie go broody in a year? We have long, California summers so I’m a bit concerned.

I’d try and break her broodiness until baby number 1 is raised. Lock her in a cage that has no nesting material, preferably wire bottom. Keep her chick in there with her.

Well, her baby is 80 days old today, so about 11 weeks. I’ll definitely try to break the broodiness so she can help the baby integrate. The baby is still so scared of the big chickens.
