Hello,
I have a 3 year old broody hen, she is a Sussex. She has been lying on 3 eggs about 2/3 weeks now. But for some reason she never manages to hatch chicks. Last year she did hatch one but I found it dead. The problem is she eats eggs and she can be quite vicious. She often attacks me by pecking and clawing:/ She even picks on my new Rooster. So anyway I'm wondering will she be a good mother if she does hatch chicks and are Sussex hens good broods in general? If not what breed hen is best to hatch chicks. I'm hoping to have a hen hatch chicks this year so please give any advise.
