Broody Tom

I'm way too hyped up about these potential poults. I went out to feed and Tom was talking to the eggs in that broody way. I hope that means there are some alive in there getting ready to hatch out. I hate not having been able to candle them. Last year we lost the eggs my hen was sitting on after a bad rainy week and them getting damp, so I never got to experience the poults hatching. I just put babies under her after I realized the eggs were bad. Hoping to see some fluffy poults tomorrow!!

It is my experience that a broody hen will sit quietly right up until the eggs are about to hatch or have actually hatched. The way I know that my hens have hatched poults is when they start talking when I approach the nest. Prior to this point, they may hiss when I approach the nest but they don't start talking until eggs are hatching.

It is possible that your tom is doing the same thing.

Confirmed that something went wrong. A couple were clear but most looked to have started, died, and then rotted. :(
