Hi everybody,

My light brahma is acting broody, always in the same box. I kick her out, and she just goes right back. I think she's getting weaker. Is it possible she has a blockage? Does this happen? I put her in a little coop/run that I built for isolation, hoping to break her brood. Should I be worried? Should I keep her in there?

Thank you.

A broody hen will puff up and hiss or shriek at you. When you lift her off the nest she'll stay puffed up, and when you put her down somewhere she'll stay puffed up right where you put her, too (although sometimes she'll snap out of it after a bit and go eat and drink, etc.) A sick chicken won't do these things.

Is your hen still laying? If not, she could be egg bound. You can do a search here on that topic.

Is she eating and pooping normally, otherwise? Broody poops are huge and smell distinctively bad.
