my chickens just started laying a couple weeks ago. My son went to get the eggs, and my golden laced Wyandotte was laying down, when he nudged her, she was sitting on an egg. I figured she probably just laid and he found her at that moment. Next day, same thing but she has 3 under her. Is she broody? She didn’t make a fuss about him taking the eggs. She’s not even quite 6 months old and it’s October and it’s starting to get pretty chilly.

Some birds just like to lounge in the nest, before and after laying.
But they can also go broody any time of year.

These are my go to signs:
Is she on nest most the day and all night?
When you pull her out of nest and put her on the ground, does she flatten right back out into a fluffy screeching pancake?
Does she walk around making a low cluckcluckcluckcluckcluck(ticking bomb) sound on her way back to the nest?
If so, then she is probably broody and you'll have to decide how to manage it.
