I have a hen that went broody an she set on the eggs until about 18 days an then a dog got into the nest when she took a break an eat the eggs. I put chicks under her an she took them. How long will it be before she starts to lay again? How old will the chicks have to be? She is a mother to them an all but maybe I made a foul up by putting chicks under her. I felt sorry for her because she sat so long for nothing. Thanks....

She won't lay again until she is finished raising the chicks, at least mine didn't.

She may start again when she's ready to kick the chicks out on their own... 8 weeks old, maybe? Anyway, it's when they no longer need her extra warmth.
