I'm so excited! I think I have a broody hen!

This will be my first! Buffy Rose raised her hackles at me and screeched last week one day when I tried slipping my hand under her to see how many eggs there were. But then she got off the nest. I checked her that night when she was on the roost. Sure enough, her belly was mostly bare. Then for a few days she acted normally. I bought some ceramic eggs and put them in the nest last night. This morning she is sitting on them and screeching at anybody that comes near. If she keeps this up for a few days I will give her some real eggs to sit on. I know it is probably premature but I'm so excited non the less.

Wait to get the eggs until she spends at least one night, better two nights on the nest. I have a cochin girl who has been showing all the broody signs - puffiness, yelling, pecking, nest hogging, but she is not yet fully broody as she is not sleeping at night on the nest yet.

I love, love a broody - congrats
