broody's left nest ...10/30 last egg just hatched!

Oh this is to nerve racking. They might be a little delayed, but I'm so glad to here that there is still movement.

My broody got back on the wrong nest, the other day, and when I finally found her that night, the eggs were cold. I put her back on her own nest and I'm hoping for the best. They are due Saturday. Lucky for me she only has 3 eggs and her sister has the majority.

I have her sister (she went broody first) in a dog kennel. This one is still in the coop cuz I had to clean up the other dog kennel and still need to make her a nesting box. I have too many broody's and too few dog kennels. I also have eggs in the bator so I'm sure they'll have chicks to raise. I hope they turn out to be good mom's

I have a homemade bator I would have given you if I had known. I'm just up in Longmont.

I CANNOT believe it!!!! Oh yes I can !

We have a PIP! The egg that is on day 21 (remember these were all set at different times within 10 days making this whole thing even more crazy!) we awoke this morning to a good healthy pip!

God is so awesome! Thank you all. We'll keep you all updated!

I am so eggcited for you. I have to go to work at 1pm until 10pm but as soon as I get home I will be checking in on how you are doing. HOOT

I realize how very impatient I am when I'm waiting like this. The pip that started this morning before 5 am is progressed nicely. SLOWLY. The beak is completely out and in the air. I've heard a few little chirps, but nothing loudly. I'm somewhat concerned though at this point because 3 hours ago I was seeing dried, white membrane, but now it's looking redder, almost bloody and there is definitely blood that's dripped out of the pip and down the side of the egg. Not sure why this would happen. I'm not familiar with this at all.

All I know right now is that it's breathing and seems to be asleep. I promised myself that I wouldn't intervene with this hatch (that's hilarious since that all I've done for the past 6 days!) but I'll give it a full 24 hours before I start helping to remove shell.

Thanks for all of you thinking and asking about us here!

Hope that there's really good news in the morning!......

I was excited that I hit 100 last week!

thank you for your sweet support through this hatch! It's nice to know that others care!

Best of luck! I'm giving you a bump, because I want someone who knows to see about the bloody pip...

We're all pulling for you and your pip-squeaks!

Well here I go 1000 posts just for you. I have seen some people here from May of this year with over 2000 posts. I ask a lot of questions and try to answer some. And I just love BYC.

If you see blood it may be because the chick is not ready to come out and thats why it's taking it's time. Thats what I read.

The membrane may be drying out. Maybe crack around the beak a bit and eyedrop some water????? I DON'T KNOW but it does sound like a drying membrane and it needs to be moist. I hope someone with some experience chimes in soon

maybe even mist around it...

I'm sorry that i haven't posted before now. It's been really hard here this morning.

We discovered early this morning that the chick died in the shell overnight. I've been racked with guilt....should I have stayed up later??? Intervened???

I'm at peace with this now, but it's taken several hours to get here. The membrane was rock hard this morning, I tried to pull away some from around the beak and I couldn't even do it with tweasers. The lack of humidity is crazy in Colorado. SOOOO....

I've added wet, warm washcloths under the remaining 5 eggs. I've also added a cup of water into the bator. Anything to get more moisture in there. The bottom of the bator is still full of water, but it's obviously not humid enough even with all that water. None of the 5 remaining eggs have any pips yet, but we did here internal tapping with one.

Hatching prayers would be very much appreciated right now....
