I think Marans can get very broody or not depending on the line. (I know, it is a lamo answer, but its true.) I have read on other posts about Marans that made horrible mothers and others that had great broody Marans that could hatch a rock.
Are you thinking of getting one?

Even some leghorns will go broody. Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery rare but its still possible. So maybe.

Yes, they'll go broody. I've got one that insisted on setting most all of last summer no matter what I did to try and get her to stop. This past week she's been starting in again.
